We met playing ultimate frisbee through one of my church’s weekly games. He shook my hand and said “Hi, I’m Cody Byard.” I didnt think much of it, but I remember how respectful he was and that he brought so much life to the group! We stayed friends for over a year until we had a mutual friend nudge the known spark between us.
One night Cody surprised me and bought tickets to the Gaylord Texan. We had a blast being kids at the new Charlie Brown Ice Exhibit that year. I had a hunch that he might be proposing and figured he would pop the big question at the hotel with all the beautiful decor and Christmas lights. But he asked, “Are you ready to go?” I was surprised thinking he’d propose while there. We left, but I left confused. Afer pulling up to his house, he said hold on and ran to the backyard. Now, I knew it was coming...he came back and asked me, “Are you ready?”...emotions welling, I started cry with excitment and anticipation. We walked into his backyard that was filled with beautiful candles, photos covering the fence, our favorite song playing, and lit path of twinkle lights to where I would say yes to my forever. We were alone, so I thought, until he said to come inside the house. I was surprised and greeted by about 40-50 of our close family and friends to a beautiful engagement party that made me smile for weeks after. It was by far one of the best days of my life!
