Alex and I met briefly one day in the Commons at Texas A&M — a moment neither of us remembers all too well. Over the next several years our paths would rarely cross as we each were involved in different organizations and ran in different social circles. After graduation, Alex moved to Houston for a job and lived with some of his best college friends, Jacob and Michael. Meanwhile, one of my best friends, Madeline, who had also recently graduated from Texas A&M and was good friends with Jacob and Alex in college, was moving to Houston and needed a roommate. After several days of hesitation, my sister Julianne encouraged me to make the move, and later that summer Madeline and I found a little apartment and moved in together. We'd spend the following months exploring Houston with our fellow Aggies and meeting new people. I didn't realize it at the time – I don't think any of us did – but this was the beginning of one of the most special times in our lives where our friends were our family and the relationships we built and the bonds we formed in the years that followed would last forever. Fast forward to 2016, Alex, Jacob, and a couple of their college pals Josh and Yoshi moved into a townhouse where Alex and Josh, two grown men, would share a bedroom. This house would become the central meeting spot for our massive Houston friend group made up primarily of Aggie alumni. Alex and I would run into each other every so often, but we'd never said more than a few words to each other (see: Alex sharing a bedroom with a grown man). One night, we all went to one of our favorite Midtown dance spots, Barbarella, where the combination of music, champagne, and irresistible dance moves proved to be a recipe for true love. We locked eyes on the dance floor that night and the rest is history.
