FAQs

Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

Dressy casual. Think slacks for guys and summer dresses or jumpsuits for ladies.

Question

Are children invited?

Answer

We anticipate a party. If you are joining us for the weekend, it is our preference that you not bring young children so that adults are free to "let loose". If you are only attending the ceremony, we trust your judgement to only bring small children if you feel like they will not be a disruption. Please be advised that there will also be adult beverages at the reception.

Question

Is there a block of cabins or rooms I should mention when reserving?

Answer

No. All cabins are available on a first-come-first-served basis and will be available to the public as well. We recommend reserving early to insure you have accommodations.

Question

Will there be items on the menu to fit my dietary requirements?

Answer

Our menu includes: bourbon glazed meatballs, shrimp skewers, hot crab dip with baguette bread, cucumber sandwiches, mac n cheese bites, chips and dips, and various bakery items. Beverages include sweet and unsweet tea, lemonade, water, coffee, and an open bar. If there are not items that fit your liking or needs, you are more than welcome to bring anything that would make the event more enjoyable for you.

Question

How do I get to the wedding and where do I park?

Answer

There are two main entrances to the park, and they are not connected. For people attending the wedding only, we highly recommend putting "Norris Tea Room" into your navigation device. If you only put in "Norris Dam State Park", it will take you to the other entrance. The tea room is nearest the park entrance by the East overlook (follow the signs for East Area), and the wedding will be held immediately across from the tea room. There is limited parking at the tea room itself; overflow parking is available at Picnic Area Shelter 1. If close parking is important to you, we recommend arriving early. For people staying in cabins, you will need to first register at the Visitor's Center, at the entrance on the west side. This is also where the modern cabins are. The rustic cabins are on the east side near the tea room.

Question

What is the itinerary for those staying the weekend?

Answer

We do not have any formal events planned other than the wedding and reception. However, we have use of the Tea Room for the entire weekend, and anticipate it will be a gathering spot throughout our time there. There are a few nearby restaurants, including Mexican, barbecue, and a brewery. The cabins are equipped with kitchenettes, so plan according to your needs. The campground features hiking trails, a swimming pool, and tennis courts. We plan to rent pontoon boats to use on Saturday morning at 9am, and welcome all to join.

Question

Should we reserve cabins in the “historic” or “standard” section?

Answer

Either side is fine. However, the historic cabins are within walking distance to the wedding site, while the standard cabins are about two miles from the wedding site, so you’ll likely want to drive over for the ceremony if you stay on that side. The bride and groom are staying on the historic side.

Question

Is it okay to take pictures?

Answer

We ask that you refrain from doing so during the ceremony unless you have specifically been asked to do so. For the rest of the festivities, please do! We ask that you use the hashtag #SuckerForPayne for any photos to share, so that we will have access to all photos.
