How We Met

A Lifetime of Coffees

Steph and Todd first met for coffee at 9 a.m. on a Sunday morning in October. They had both recently arrived home to Cleveland after trips to opposite coasts. Todd had spent a week in Joshua Tree. Steph was just back from a week in coastal Maine. The setup had originated at an annual clambake that happened right around Steph’s birthday. In true Virgo fashion, she was living her best birthday life, moving from friend to friend at the party until she met Todd’s sister Kara in the bathroom line. They had a nice chat before Steph was on to the next thing. She didn’t think too much about it. That is until Stephen texted her the next day: "Kara has a brother. What do you think about a setup?" Todd’s stats: steady job, good family, Bay Village homeowner. Numbers were exchanged. Todd walked in wearing what Steph describes as a great, cream-colored sweater. The conversation was easy. They chatted about their trips, future travel dreams, the pros and cons of California. It felt different to them. It was. When Todd texted Steph after meeting that it was "great to connect", she was thrown. Between early morning coffee and great to connect signs were pointing to business meeting. She had to up the ante. She asked when he was taking her to drinks. He countered with dinner. When she walked into a restaurant with white tablecloths, she knew they had a true date on their hands, even if the median age of the other diners was 72. Many more dates followed. They went to museums, and Miami, and even back to Maine, where Todd got down on one knee. Steph said yes. She can’t wait to marry him. They cannot wait to celebrate with each of you!
