The Arboretum at Penn State

Bigler Road, State College, PA 16803

Beautiful gardens to walk around, fun for everyone. Easy walk, flat with sidewalks. Make sure to go inside the wooden house “the bird house” at the back and look through the windows for some relaxation. The Arboretum is free, but parking is $1/dollar. Parking is at the lot at the Lewis Katz building very close to the gardens. There is a pay station at the lot. Visit our brand new Palmer Art Museum while you are here, that is now in front of the Arboretum.

Palmer Museum of Art

We have a new beautiful art museum that opened a two years ago--it's actually at the PSU Arboretum, so you can visit both at the same time. Admission to museum is free/donation.

Penn State Berkey Creamery

The three of us (Chris, Emily and Hank) all love ice cream! Famous locally made ice cream, 3 days from cow to your spoon. They taught Ben & Jerry how to make ice cream. Park in the garage next to Creamery. They will pack it in a cooler with dry ice if you want to take it on a long journey to your home.

Meyer Dairy Store

If you love ice cream as much as we do, you'll want to try both the Creamery and Meyer Dairy and decide which is better! :) Cows surround the store and parking is free. Our family purchases our milk here as well. Lots of cute local food items for sale as well.

Nittany Lion Shrine

Lion Shrine- a famous place to take a PSU pic is by the Nittany Lion statue. Located at Curtin and Burrowes Rd on campus.

Penn's Cave and Wildlife Park

Mount Nittany Trailhead

There is LOTS of hiking in beautiful Central Pennsylvania. This is our most famous. Reach out if you want more options.

Boal City Brewing

Opened about two years ago. Some indoor space, and lots of outdoor space/beer garden (including fire pits) to have a delicious local beer. A popular hang out place. Usually have a food truck available for delicious meals. Great place to visit if staying at the Wyndham.

Pennsylvania Military Museum

Great park and museum. Walking path is 1/2 mile flat loop. Convenient for those staying at the Wyndham.

Duffy's Tavern

Great dinner spot if staying at the Wyndham. Tavern build in 1819 and in the center of the town of Boalsburg.

Columbus Chapel & Boal Mansion Museum

The Boal Estate has been in the Boal family home for eight generations and tells the story of America as seen through one family. The original buildings, and furnishings of the family are still here. For over 200 years, the Boal family has helped shape its community, including these present-day landmarks: the historic village of Boalsburg (1808) -the birthplace of Memorial Day (1864), Penn State University (1855), the 28th Division Shrine and Pennsylvania Military Museum (1919), and the Boal Barn Playhouse (1959) just to name a few!

In addition to Duffy's, Kelly's and Boal City Brewing there are several other dining options on that end of town including Breakfast on Boal, Angelo's Pizzeria, Kitchen Garden (a new local favorite that serves Turkish food), Sakura Japanese Restaurant (one of our favorites for Hibachi and sushi), and Plaza Mexicana. There are three coffee shops, all of which have food options--The Pump Station, Cafe Lemont and Rothrock Coffee. If you'd just like to grab something at the grocery, there is a Weis and a Giant within 10 minutes of the Wyndham. Sheets is also popular for grab and go items.

Restaurants Near Fairfield Inn and Suites

There are several restaurants on this end of town including chains Texas Roadhouse, Olive Garden, Marzoni's, Applebee's, Cracker Barrel, Panera, etc. Local restaurant options on that end of town include Champ's, Otto's and Barrel 21, where we'll be having our rehearsal dinner. This end of town also has a Wegman's with a large selection of prepared foods.

Wasson Farm Market

Our favorite ice cream spot in Central Pennsylvania. Check their Facebook page for hours. Also, very inexpensive!
