Jeremy's version ... It was a celebration of my Fraternity' s Founders' Day. It was 1/9/14, I was sitting at the bar in a club called Prohibition when this Lady walked in with a braided mohawk, wearing black frames, dangling ear rings in the shape of an upside down triangle, a black/white striped shirt and jeans. It felt as if the earth stopped on its axis. She smiled and I was glued. I watched her throughout the night. I wrote my number down on a napkin and was going to give it to her just as I was asked to escort two older Sorors to their car. As I was returning, I noticed her get into a car and drive away. I immediately began asking questions about her. I felt like I had missed a chance to get to know her. I went home feeling defeated. I later saw a FB notification on my phone and my face lit up like Christmas Lights. We began seeing one another and the rest is history. Stefany's version ... It was the eighth day of January, and I ventured out to a club called Prohibition to help celebrate the brothers of Phi Beta Sigma on turning 100. I was wearing a royal blue blazer, a white T-shirt and blue jeans, w/ a pair of black and gold dangling earrings and black wedges. While making a mental note of what was happening around me, I noticed a young man who had an indescribable demeanor. He was stocky in build, had a head full of brown locks and a huge smile; and to top it off, he had an ‘S’ across his chest. We made eye contact several times but exchanged few words. As I was leaving, I noticed that same young man who greeted me w/ a smile walking an older Soror to her car. The thought of his generosity and chivalry made me smile. I watched him make his way back into the club as I rode away. We were not formally introduced, yet I was drawn to him. I was curious about him and determined to get to know him. Once home, I reached out to the young lady who invited me to the celebration and she gave me his name. “Jeremy Byrd,” And thus, my fairytale began.
