Day trip to Guatapé town. Visit this picturesque and colourful traditional colonial town of the east of Antioquia, located approximately 85kms from Medellín. There’s a beautiful natural landscape, surrounded by a man-made lake for hydroelectrical purposes and a natural giant rock formation, the Peñol Rock. At 200 meters tall, you can climb this monolith with a stairway of 640 steps. The town of Guatape itself is one of the most picturesque and colorful in the country. There is also a fun theme park called La Culebra nearby where you can do kayaking, water slides etc — if you still have energy after climbing El Peñol. Many local tour companies offer trips to Guatape.
Visiting Comuna 13 is an absolute must for anyone coming to Medellin! This barrio, or neighborhood, used to be Medellin (and possibly Colombia’s) most dangerous neighborhoods, but in the last 10 years has completely changed to become a beautiful (and safest!) place to visit for tourists, as well as a symbol of Colombia’s urban transformation and ‘New Colombia’. It’s known for its vibrant street art, bright culture and lively atmosphere.
Pueblito Paisa is a replica of a traditional Antioquian town that was built in honor of the region's rich heritage. It's located on a small, green hill area beside the Medellín River called the Cerro Nutibara. The Pueblito consists of a town square with a fountain at its center, colorfully-painted buildings, a beautiful white church, and green gardens complete with walking tracks and an outdoor gym. Additionally, the famous Museum of the City (Museo de Ciudad) is located here as well and is worth a visit if you are interested in history, art, and sculptures.
