Question

15. What is the UK ETA?15. What is the UK ETA?

Answer

The UK ETA is a new entry requirement for certain visitors traveling to the UK, including Northern Ireland. It allows eligible travelers to enter without a traditional visa and aims to enhance border security. - Who needs an ETA? Travelers from visa-exempt countries (e.g., the US, Canada, Australia) must apply before traveling. Check your requirements here. - Do I need an ETA if I’m from Ireland or the UK? No, citizens of Ireland and the UK do not need an ETA. - When should I apply? Apply as soon as your travel plans are confirmed. Approval usually takes 48-72 hours, but applying at least one week in advance is recommended. - How do I apply? Apply online via the UK government website. You’ll need: - Passport details - Travel plans (arrival date) - A valid email address - Payment for the fee (about £10 as of Jan 2025). - How long is it valid? An ETA is valid for multiple trips over two years or until your passport expires. - Does it cover Northern Ireland? Yes, your ETA covers Northern Ireland as part of the UK. Bring your passport and ETA details. - What happens if I forget to apply? Without an ETA, you cannot board your flight to the UK. Apply well in advance to avoid issues. - Anything else I should know? ETAs are digital, linked to your passport (no physical document). All travelers, including children, need their own ETA. Keep your passport and ETA handy during travel.
