Nicole and Matt met in the summer of 2011 at Forever Broadcasting, a radio station cluster in Johnstown. Nicole just started her internship at the company when Matt was hired as a broadcasting engineer. One day, while Nicole was editing radio interviews in the Cool 101.7 studio, Matt came in to replace the light bulb in the on-air sign. The Electric Light Orchestra T-shirt he was wearing caught her eye, and they quickly struck up a conversation about their love for Jeff Lynne, Todd Rundgren, Jackson Browne, and other rock 'n roll geniuses from the 1970s. Fittingly for two fans of all things vintage, they spent their first date buying a 1970s floral couch from Goodwill and hauling it into Matt's new apartment. Nicole planted the first kiss after growing tired of Matt's coy attempts at hitting on her. Over the next six years, they supported each other through new jobs, new apartments, and extended periods of time apart when Nicole's career took her to the other side of the state. Nicole missed her old stomping grounds - and her little guy - so they moved to Pittsburgh together in August 2017. Right before their Christmas vacation in 2017, Matt came home to a very angry Nicole, infuriated that he forgot to put their trash cans out for trash day again. She scolded him for being a crappy roommate, after which he shared that he had just spent the day driving to and from Johnstown to pick up her engagement ring, only to find out it wasn't finished yet. A teary-eyed Nicole promised to say yes, so long as he remembered to take out the trash next time. They headed to Johnstown the next day to visit Nicole's parents, and Matt picked up the ring while Nicole was grabbing lunch at their favorite pizza shop. He slyly passed the ring to Nicole in a cassette tape case when she asked for a Christmas tape to play in the car. After a good, long, ugly cry, Nicole gleefully said yes.
