Things To Do

The Wedding Website of Maegan Stayrook and Matthew Luck
New to the Baltimore and DC area? Welcome! We have a list of some of our favorite places that are within 1-2 hours of our house and our wedding venue. If you plan to extend your stay to also do some sightseeing, see below for some of our recommended things to do.

The Cloisters Castle

10440 Falls Road, Timonium, MD 21093

This is where Maegan and Matthew are getting married! It is a beautiful castle built by Sumner A. Parker and his wife to house his medieval collection. They even spent time traveling Europe to gather authentic pieces and research gothic architecture to create their own castle in a wooded section of Maryland. Much of the architecture itself is from Europe, shipped from overseas in their devotion to create an authentic medieval castle from Europe. Now, it is maintained by the city of Baltimore and is an event facility; one of its more notorious events was Will Smith's and Jada Pinkett's wedding in 1998.

National Mall

Washington, DC

Maegan's and Matthew's second and third dates were walking the National Mall during the cherry blossom festival in DC, and their official engagement photos were taken during the cherry blossom festival two years later. If you have some spare time, they highly recommend going to the National Mall and getting some photos before you leave Maryland.

Nationals Park

1500 South Capitol Street SE, Washington, DC 20003

More than just baseball happens at Nats Park. Beer festivals, concerts, charities, and - Maegan's favorite - Enchant Christmas. This was where Matthew proposed to Maegan. Contrary to what everyone feared, she was NOT aware of his plans and was completely surprised! Matthew used to live directly across from the Nats Stadium when he lived in D.C., so he and Maegan would often walk to different restaurants and attractions in the local area.

Gatsby

1205 Half Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

Maegan’s favorite restaurant in downtown DC! It is directly across from the Nationals Park, and was one of the places Maegan and Matthew went for dinner during their first excursions together during the Cherry Blossom Festival. It is now also the location where the couple and their families had dinner right before Matthew proposed to Maegan!

Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History

10th St. & Constitution Avenue Northwest, Washington, DC 20560

Maegan's and Matthew's favorite museum! They found out their mutual love of museums when they went into this museum. If you like museums, check out the Smithsonian's collection of museums along the National Mall and the surrounding area.

Baltimore Museum of Industry

1415 Key Highway, Baltimore, MD 21230

Maegan and Matthew were introduced to this fascinating museum during a wedding (yes! A couple had a wedding in the museum!). They had fun perusing the sections during cocktail hour, and they now recommend it to anyone else who likes to see how the industry has developed through the decades.

International Spy Museum

700 L'Enfant Plaza Southwest, Washington, DC 20024

Maegan and Matthew both loved this place! Tickets do cost, but they think it's worth it. It's an interactive museum about the history of espionage and it's role in the world.

Calvert Cliffs State Park

10540 H G Trueman Road, Lusby, MD 20657

This is near Maegan's parents' home, and it is a beautiful park with some easy hiking trails. Walk all the way to the beach and comb for some baby shark's teeth!

Eastern Market

225 7th Street Southeast, Washington, DC 20003

Matthew and Maegan enjoyed walking to the local markets in D.C., and the Eastern Market was one of them. It takes up two streets of D.C. and has a wonderful assortment of vendors, food, and wares.
