How Katie and Will met:

Will and Katie's story began on the eve of 2018 at a New Year's Eve party. Seated on the porch, Will shared his ambitious resolution to swear off candy for the entire year. However, as time wore on for Katie, the memory of the conversation faded, as did Will's resolve to resist the temptation of sweets. It wasn't until later that year at a youth conference for the Church of Jesus Christ that their paths intertwined again. Amidst the swirl of music and laughter at the conference's closing dance, Katie confided in a friend how cute she thought Will was, unknowingly setting the stage for fate's gentle nudge. Before she knew it Katie found herself on the dance floor with Will, and their connection blossomed. They left the dance to stroll beneath the stars sharing laughter and stolen moments in the night. Today two memories from that evening stand out: the revelation of Will's middle name and an unexpected interruption by Rusty Payne, Will's father, prompting Katie to make a hasty exit. Since those early encounters, they have danced their way together through high school events, hung out at church gatherings, written to each other while Will served an LDS mission, and have even dug into the deep stuff over rounds of We're Not Really Strangers. When Katie found out Will was single in the Winter of 2023, she reached out to him to reconnect. Needless to say, neither of them expected that a casual lunch at the BYU Wilk could lead to love. Will impressed Katie with his knowledge of the Old Testament and psychology. She then invited him on a triple date the following weekend. They truly hit it off shopping for ingredients for pizza at Walmart, making the pizzas with Pillsbury dough, playing card games, and watching Central Intelligence. In fact, being together has been so much fun, they have spent nearly every minute in each other’s company. Katie’s sunrise tradition at the Lincoln Memorial became extra special, when early on Good Friday Will surprised her by popping the question. In complete shock, tears, and excitement, Katie said, “Yes!” They feel blessed their relationship thus far has been filled with childlike wonder and joy and look forward to putting forth the effort it takes to feel this throughout their marriage. They hope you will always seek wonder and joy as you build a life with, and learn how to best love your forever person.
