This love story began when Will asked Aly out on a date. The date was planned for later in the week, but during a long drive, Will decided to call Aly to help break the ice. What was meant to be a short conversation turned into a three-hour call that ended with Will inviting Aly to attend church with him the next morning. Their first date was at Cornerstone Church in Ames, Iowa. During the service, Aly accidentally spilled coffee on her shirt and whispered a few choice words she thought no one could hear — but Will did. In that moment, he knew she was someone special. From that day forward, the two were nearly inseparable. When they finally made it to their originally planned first date, Will forgot to check if the mini golf course was open. With a quick change of plans and his easy charm, he still managed to win Aly over. Over the years, their relationship continued to grow through life’s many seasons — from Aly’s final year of veterinary school to Will stepping into his role as head livestock judging coach. Despite living in different states, starting new jobs, and logging countless miles on the road, they always made time for one another. Long walks through Ames, especially across their favorite bridge, became a treasured ritual that reflected their steady, enduring love. On February 1, 2025, Will and Aly’s story came full circle. Aly had made dinner reservations in Ames to celebrate her birthday, not realizing she was unknowingly planning her own engagement. As they drove to dinner, Will took a scenic route, pointing out some of their favorite spots — The Filling Station, where they shared countless breakfasts; Reiman Gardens, which Aly noted they had only visited once; and finally, the bridge leading to Jack Trice Stadium, where Will had first asked Aly to be his girlfriend. Will made a quick detour, stopping beneath the bridge — one of their most meaningful places in Ames. There, he got down on one knee and asked Aly to spend forever with him. Now, after sharing many chapters of life together, Aly and Will are overjoyed to begin their greatest one yet — marriage. They feel incredibly thankful for the love and support of their family and friends, and can’t wait to celebrate this next chapter with all of you in May.
