A walk along the canal is a great way to spend the day. Paddle boats and bicycles are available to rent. There are several museums and memorials along the canal, including the Congressional Medal of Honor Memorial, the Indiana State Museum, and the Eiteljorg Museum of American Indians and Western Art to name a few.

The Soldiers & Sailors Monument is Indiana's official memorial to the Hoosiers that served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812, the Mexican War, the Civil War, the Frontier Wars and the Spanish-American War. The monument is made of limestone and stands 284 ft 6 in high, only 15 ft shorter than the Statue of Liberty. It cost $598,318 in 1902. Building a similar structure today would cost more than $500 million. Bruno Schmitz of Berlin, Germany was the architect for the monument along with Rudolf Schwarz, who was the sculptor. The Monument is crowned with a statue of Victory, holding a sword in her right hand and a torch in her left. The Soldiers & Sailors Monument houses a Gift Shop and Observatory. From the Observatory, visitors can experience panoramic views of the city skyline from 231 ft above street level. The Observatory can be reached by climbing 330 steps at no charge or by riding an elevator for a $2 fee.

A trip to the racing capital of the world isn't complete without visiting the Indianapolis Motor Speedway, site of the Indianapolis 500 and Brickyard 400. It is the largest sports venue in the world as well as the highest capacity sports venue in the world with a seating capacity of 257,325. The rectangular oval track is 2.5 miles around. The speedway grounds currently cover over 559 acres and includes the Indianapolis Motor Speedway Museum, Hall of Fame, and Brickyard Crossing Golf Resort(14 holes are outside of the track and 4 are inside). Scott grew up in the Speedway area. Both Scott and Stacy have visited the Speedway on numerous occasions as well as on race day.

Indianapolis is home to the largest children's museum in the world. We both went on many field trips to the children's museum growing up in Indy.

Adjacent to our wedding venue, the Indianapolis Zoo houses more than 3,800 animals. The zoo is a private non-profit organization, receiving no tax support and is supported entirely by membership fees, admissions, donations, sales, grants, and an annual fundraiser. A large portion of our wedding venue expense goes directly to supporting the animals at the zoo.

Known affectionately as Mass Ave, this five-block area is ripe with theaters, restaurants, art galleries, and, most attractively for shoppers, a number of eclectic, independent boutiques. You'll encounter unique finds on each block, from Stout's Shoes (the nation's oldest shoe store, established in 1886), to Silver In The City/At Home In The City (offering silver jewelry and unique gift items), to The Best Chocolate In Town (which is fairly self-descriptive). Venture to the Athenaeum for a stein of German lager in the historic Rathskeller biergarten, try local craft beers at Ralston's Drafthouse, or sip a cocktail at the prohibition-era ball&biscuit. Foodies can indulge in American-modern cuisine at Mesh or take down a platter of tacos at Bakersfield. Take in Indy culture at its finest on Mass Ave, "45 Degrees from Ordinary."

The Original Farmers’ Market is held every Wednesday, May through October, on Market Street in front of City Market and is one of central Indiana’s longest-running and largest farmers’ markets. The Indianapolis City Market and Indiana Landmarks offer guided descents into the City Market catacombs, a long-hidden ruin beneath City Market’s Whistler Plaza.
