How We Met

First comes love, then comes the baby in the baby carriage, then comes marriage

Peter and I met when I was in high school. I was 17 and he was 21, and he loves to remind my dad of that. We met through some mutual friends and went on a couple dates. He was madly in love, and I was totally not. I went off to college at Texas State University and moved to San Marcos. Peter tells everyone that I thought I was way too cool for him. (Pretty true). Well, life has a funny way of working out and I became pregnant with McKenzie Grace. The San Marcos party life came to a quick halt and I moved back home to Pflugerville. My mom was coordinating the Travis County Youth Show rodeo mutton bustin' and needed help loading the kids on the sheep down in the arena. I was large and in charge with my big belly and was helping her in the arena. Little did I know, Peter was in the audience and has a thing for pregnant ladies (well, only me) and was immediately blowing my phone up, before I could even get out of the arena, with creepy texts about how beautiful I was. Again, I was not having it and blew him off over and over. Fast forward to Kenzie being 8 months old, I finally gave into his persistent requests to take me out on a date. He showed up to pick me up and met Kenzie and was so freaked out by her (ha!) Well, after our second "first" date, I was totally obsessed with him and couldn't get enough (second times a charm). Kenzie grew on him and they quickly became the best of friends, and still are. Kenzie and I moved in with him about a year later and now he can never escape us!

The Proposal

What comes first: the ring or the egg?

Peter and I had been together for about 4 years, shared McKenzie, lived together, and after all that, I became certain he would NEVER propose to me. Previously, I would always annoy him with random ring pic texts and wedding ideas, but I decided that he was never going to ask me. Then I got pregnant with our sweet baby Carson and he says he knew he had to marry the mother of his child. My pregnancy hormones made me a crazy woman; screaming at him that NOW he wants to marry me, what about before?! He never technically proposed though and I gave up again. I scheduled our gender reveal ultrasound for Valentine's Day and Kenzie and him were there. He was late (I was soooooo mad), but I later found out it was because he was next door buying Kenzie and I huge Valentine's Day bouquets. We found out we were having a boy! Kenzie burst into tears out of anger that she wasn't having a sister, while Peter was so excited for a boy! We went to dinner then headed to the barn. The barn (P farm) is a special place to our family and we were living there at the time since our house was being remodeled. I am a crazy chicken lady and I went to pick up eggs every night out of the coop. I headed to the coop and went to grab the eggs, and there was a beautiful engagement ring on top of the eggs! I screamed and burst into tears. I turned around to Peter on one knee, asking me to marry him! He then turned to McKenzie and gave her a beautiful necklace with a key (the key to his heart) and asked to marry her too. I think I cried for 2 hours straight and Kenzie was crying because I was crying. We had our gender reveal to our family the next weekend, but to my surprise, it was also an engagement party! I love our story. Peter is a very low key guy and I knew his proposal would never be "extravagant." Well, I was right. Our proposal was surrounded by chicken poop and feathers, but I couldn't have asked for a better way. I will always treasure the story of how I said "Yes."
