How we met

Summer 2014

Garrett and Stacey had their first date in late summer of 2014 in New Braunfels, TX. Garrett became Stacey's "man friend," as he was known by those close to her, but they decided to not be too serious. On January 7, 2015, Garrett asked Stacey how she felt about changing his title from "man friend" to "boyfriend," and their #redheadadventures have been happening ever since.

The engagement

August 20, 2017

His Story: After almost 5 months of getting the ring made, I finally took possession of it and it was burning a hole in my pocket. Stacey had brought up a day in Austin and I thought this to be perfect timing to pop the question. She had even mentioned going to Trudy's, everything was falling into place. The next day, in Austin, when it was time to go eat supper, in classic Stacey fashion, she became wishy-washy about what and where she wanted to eat - all she DID know was that she didn't want Trudy's because she would "eat too many chips" (is there such a thing here in Texas?!). After I pressed her a little, it became evident that if I was going to ask her to marry me tonight, it was not going to be at Trudy's. After further banter, she decided on a greasy burger and forever memory (unbeknownst to her, of course) from Dirty's. After we finished eating, I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and get the ring ready for showtime. Upon my return I found Stacey deeply focused on her phone and drinking a milkshake. After re-directing her attention to the shiny little circle of rose gold, accentuated with diamonds and an emerald I popped the question. I then had to explain that, yes, I was indeed asking her to marry me...inside Dirty's...while she was slurping a milkshake. She said yes, the ring fit perfect, and the milkshake was yummy. Her Story: Garrett asked me if I was ready to walk to Trudy's, but I told him I didn't want mexican--I really wanted a burger. I couldn't understand why Garrett seemed so intent on going to Trudy's. Garrett told me to pick anywhere I wanted, but that it had to be somewhere walking-distance. The only local burger place nearby is Dirty Martin's, which we lovingly called "Dirtys." We ate our burgers, had a great time as usual, and then Garrett said: "this was supposed to happen at Trudy's, but I would ask you anywhere--will you marry me?" I said yes.
