Question

What type of outfit should I wear to the sangeet?

Answer

Here's some general tips, but please feel free to wear whatever makes you the most comfortable. Sangeet - Emphasis on color and clothing that is comfortable to dance in. For women, if you want to wear Indian clothes, consider searching for these outfits online: lehengas (usually made of a cropped blouse and skirt with a matching scarf), salwar kameez (a long patterned blouse with matching pants and scarf), sharara (also a long patterned blouse but with wider pants and scarf), anarkalis (an ankle length dress top with leggings underneath and scarf), even saris (you can buy these pre-draped and pleated for ease of wear). For men, you could wear a kurta (a long shirt, usually with matching pants and can be paired with a scarf, sometimes come with vests).

Question

What type of outfit should I wear to the Indian wedding?

Answer

We would love you to join us in traditional Indian clothing for our morning ceremony. You will have the opportunity to go back to the hotel and change after lunch. We will be indoors for the morning so don't worry about the heat! Women can wear saris, lehengas, or salwar kameez, described above. Men can wear a kurta with a scarf or vest, a sherwani (long buttoned coat-like top, worn over matching pants and usually a light shirt), or a Nehru suit (a closed front jacket and suit pants).

Question

What type of outfit should I wear for the reception?

Answer

After an afternoon break, we will all be returning to the venue for a Western ceremony, followed by cocktail hour and reception. You can wear any formal attire you want. We invite you to wear formal Indian attire, but you can certainly wear Western attire if you would be more comfortable. Women can wear an embellished lehenga, sari, or Western gown. Men can wear an embellished kurta, sherwani, or a Western suit. (Typically, men do wear Western suits for an Indian reception!)

Question

What will we do between the Hindu and Western ceremony?

Answer

There will be a break in the day after lunch and before returning to the Hudson House for the Western ceremony. During that time we encourage you to return to your accommodations and get some rest, or explore Jersey City.
