Question

Can you help me understand the wedding ceremony and reception timeline?

Answer

The wedding ceremony and reception are two separate events, with a few hours of downtime in between for guests to relax and refresh. Here is a general overview of the wedding day and key ceremony moments: 8:30 - Breakfast opens 8:30 AM – Baraat Join us for the groom’s procession to the ceremony, filled with music, dancing, and celebration as he arrives with his family and friends. Kasi Yatra, Milni & Vara Pooja The bride’s family formally welcomes the groom and his family. This includes the playful Kasi Yatra, where the groom pretends to leave for a life of spirituality, but is convinced by the bride’s family to return and get married. Ganesh Pooja A prayer to Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and bless the ceremony. Bride’s Entrance The bride is carried down the aisle in a traditional basket by her maternal uncles and brothers. 11:03 AM – Subhamuhurtham & Jeelakarra Bellam This is the most auspicious moment of the wedding. The couple, separated by a curtain, place a cumin and jaggery paste on each other’s heads and see each other for the first time, symbolizing their union. After Subhamuhurtham, the ceremony continues with the following rituals: Mangalya Pooja The sacred thread (mangalsutra) is blessed and tied by the groom around the bride’s neck, symbolizing their marital bond. Jai Mala (Exchange of Garlands) The couple exchanges flower garlands, representing acceptance of one another. Pheras The couple walks around the sacred fire, taking vows together that represent commitment, partnership, and shared values in marriage. Talambralu The bride and groom shower each other with rice, symbolizing prosperity, happiness, and a playful start to married life. 12:30 PM – Lunch A traditional wedding lunch will be served following the ceremony. 2:00-6:00 PM - Break Please take this time to rest and rejuvenate before the reception!
