In the winter of 2020, the Spurriers were looking for something to do during the pandemic and decided to try something new — pickleball! Meanwhile, the Ebelings, always into their sports, were quite into pickleball at that point and frequently played recreationally. Then one Saturday night at a pickleball social in Pikesville, they met... Kevin created a pickleball group looking for younger players and approached Erin about joining. Erin was interested — though maybe a little more interested in Kevin. One day, Kevin posted that people were playing at Westminster City Park. Erin had never even been to Westminster — it was definitely outside her usual dating app radius — but she was working in Reisterstown at the time, and figured, why not? She showed up, and that’s when Kevin realized she might be interested in more than just pickleball. After months of being friends, Kevin built up the courage to ask Erin to their first solo pickleball date in October 2021, followed by dinner, of course. The next week, they went on a pumpkin patch date to Baughers. The week after that, they carved pumpkins. And week by week, it just felt more and more like this was something special. Then, on November 21st, on a date night out, Kevin casually said, “My mom keeps asking when we’re going to go Facebook official” — his not-so-subtle way of asking Erin to be his girlfriend. Fast forward about three and a half years later — Kevin proposed to Erin at Springfield Manor Winery in Thurmont, Maryland, and celebrated with both their families. Looking back, it’s hard to imagine what life would look like if it weren’t for pickleball — now they’ll be partners for life.
