Sandcastles

The Date that Sealed the Deal

Morgan's Perspective: A week or so after meeting for the first time and following our first date, we were planning something to do. Caleb said that I could decide what the day would hold, and as I sat doing homework with friends, I frantically tried to think of something low key but fun, and something different than just going to get a cup of coffee. My friend said "sandcastles!" (Thanks, Lizzy!) So off we went to build sandcastles on a oddly warm February day. Caleb's perspective: Being the hopeless romantic that I am, I had created this whole big elaborate plan for the day (and a backup, and a backup backup, and another backup for that). However, I asked Morgan if there was anything that she really wanted to do (who knows, maybe it would fit super well into what I was thinking!). When she said she wanted to build sandcastles, I looked at the weather, saw that it was almost 50 degrees, and I knew that her idea trumped every other thought I'd had.

When We Knew

Caleb: It's a funny story, actually. About a month before we met, I was in California and driving back from my friend Davy's house. I was praying in the car, and out of nowhere, the name "Morgan Sprinkle" popped into my head. I tried to place the name - was that someone from high school? Someone at Gordon? I looked her up on Facebook and saw that she was from Gordon and definitely recognized her. I thought about this shortly after we built sandcastles, and I believe that that was Jesus just gently dropping that name to get her on my radar :) It wasn't long after that I knew this was the woman I was going to marry. I knew I had fallen hopelessly in love with her within a month of when we met. Morgan: Caleb knew LONG before I knew, but I eventually figured it out :) If I had to pick a defining moment of when I knew he was the one, it was the summer of 2018, when we crammed our entire summer into a weekend. Trips to favorite spots in Delaware and little adventures was such a great time, it felt comfortable, real, and normal. That weekend was the first time Caleb visited my house, but seeing him interact with my family definitely sealed the deal. There were certainly many other moments that showed how silly I'd be if I walked away: the little surprise notes and flowers, the pick-me ups on bad days, the laughs, the car rides where we decided to have our own concert singing along to Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas" in the most off key voices, and many, many more.

The Proposal

11.30.19

Wingaersheek Beach, Gloucester MA. Morgan's Perspective: It was a normal day for me, going about my typical day of classes, completely oblivious to all that was unfolding around me. Caleb, months before, invited me to his work Christmas party. Because I wanted to know what to wear, I googled the event, and looked at photos from previous years to get an idea of how fancy this event was going to be. So to the Christmas party, that's how I knew my Friday night was going to go! My friend, Anne, met me outside of my class and basically said "get in my car, we're going somewhere." Still, completely clueless, I texted Caleb to let him know I might be a little late to him picking me up for the Christmas party. He proceeded to ask if Anne could just drop me off at his place to which I responded, "but I'm not even wearing what I was going to wear and am now wildly underdressed for this party." All the way down the highway, I was texting him, wildly unaware that there was in fact no Christmas party that night. We arrived at the beach and Anne said, "there's some of your clothes and shoes in the back of the car if you want." Still completely unaware of what was to come. As I walked on to the beach, I noticed a white tent set up, but assumed someone was having a party until Anne goes, "Morgan. Go to the tent." Caleb's Perspective: I was in Australia with my mom in June of 2018. We were on a 2 hour boat ride back from the Great Barrier Reef and I felt like the Lord had given me permission to dream about what a proposal could look like. I knew that this had to go down at Wingaersheek. I got really lucky that my work Christmas party was the same night I was planning on proposing - it gave me the perfect cover for the evening. Val, my wonderful supervisor, had told me to take the day off so that I could focus on proposing, so I spent the day prepping everything (and trying not to freak out). Huge shoutout to all our friends who took time off work to help set it all up!
