Once upon a time, in a college playwriting class, two women met the exactly right person at the exactly wrong time. They partnered together for a writing assignment—Mary had written about a female boxer on the brink of emotional collapse before a fight, Olivia wrote about teenager being sent to a foreign correctional camp after punching a reporter. The connection was obvious. It still took five years for them to get together. They would star in Stop Kiss in 2018 at college. A show about two women becoming friends and then falling in love. They got to kiss every night for a month. It still took five years for them to get together. After Olivia graduated college, they spent the summer living together in Greenwich Village, New York. Mary was working at the LGBT Community Center, and Olivia came along. They shared a 1 bedroom, sixth floor walk up apartment the size of a Greyhound Bus. They spent the days playing music together at bars, and spent the nights taking turns who slept on the couch. It still took them four. And a half. More years. To get together. After 2020 hit, Mary and Olivia both moved back to their childhood homes. Did I mention they grew up 12 minutes away from each other? Shopping at the same grocery stores? Or that they both attended the Columbia Drama Learning Center—one year apart from each other? Or that they both went to high school in Towson, Maryland? And even though Olivia went to a public art school and Mary attended a private Catholic institution, they both spent afternoons at the Towson mall—maybe even feet away from each other? In the hazy fugue state of 2020 to 2022, they both stayed friends, albeit friends with an increasingly undeniable romance growing between them. It wasn’t until Mary moved to Virginia in 2022 that Olivia’s frontal lobe finished developing, and she realized she couldn’t go one more day without Mary. Christmas 2022 came, and these two women found the exactly right words at the exactly right time, and when everything was meant to happen it finally did. Since then, Olivia and Mary have travelled across the country (and the world, as of June 2026!) , moved into their first home together, raised two beautiful cats into contributing members of society, and gotten very good at talking about themselves in the third person. They’re so excited to celebrate the rest of their lives with all of their loved ones in April!
