It all began in August of 2011 at our alma mater, Notre Dame College. We ended up being in the same group during our freshmen Welcome Weekend events. After a friendly game of sand volleyball on campus, I (Martha) asked Jay for his number so that I could text him so everyone could meet back up later to hangout. But, if you ask Jay, he will always say that it was deeper than that. I guess he was right- we had a connection. For the next two years, we became the best of friends. But in August of 2013, when we arrived back at school for our junior year, something felt different and we decided that we indeed did "like" each other. That year, Jay invited me to spend Thanksgiving break with his family. On November 28th, 2013, he took me to the Marysville High School baseball field (where he played 4 years of baseball) to toss baseballs, and on one of those balls (which he purposely threw horribly to make me chase after), were the words, “I love you Martha Joan!” on one side, and, “Will you be my girlfriend?” on the other. And the rest is history! Fast forward six years later, Jay planned a trip for us to spend a weekend in a cabin at Hocking Hills for the day after our 6-year dating anniversary. The drive down to Logan, OH was pretty normal, like any road trip we’d ever been on, filled with Jay's crazy driving and our dancing/singing parties. We finally got to our cabin, and a few minutes into our stay on November 29th, 2019, in the most intimate of ways, Jay got down on one knee and asked me to marry him!!! For the past 7+ years, Jay and I have made the memories of a lifetime. We moved in together, bought our first home, have traveled the world from Mexico, to the Bahamas, and to Israel, and he even convinced me to get a cat AND dog. We have grown together, continue to learn from one another, and are living the life we have built together to the fullest. And we know it will only continue to get better as we begin the greatest chapter of our lives as HUSBAND and WIFE!
