We met during a floor program during Taylor's freshman year and Spenser's sophomore year. We started the night at the bowling alley. Taylor's first impression of Spenser was "what a butthead" because he changed spots while we were trying to learn names. After bowling, we went to the slowest Steak and Shake, where conversation picked up. Spenser was one of the gentlemen that walked a group of us girls back to our dorms. A group of us hung out in the common area for a few hours. That was the night phone numbers were exchanged.
Spenser's graduation started the long-distance journey. The first year of long-distance Taylor was still in Peoria, IL and Spenser was in Red Wing, MN. After Taylor graduated from Bradley, she moved to Milwaukee for her dietetic internship. Within the first few months, Taylor knew she wanted to stay in Milwaukee long term, so Spenser's job search began. In March 2020, as the world was shutting down, Spenser moved to Milwaukee and started a new job.
Spenser knew Taylor was not interested in getting engaged until she was done with school. In May 2020, Taylor finished her dietetic internship and was ready to start a career. Amidst the pandemic, Taylor and Spenser decided that buying a house was the move. When the closing day came around, we didn't have access to the house right away. The next day, Taylor was impatiently waiting to get in the house and start painting, while Spenser was nervously waiting to pop the question. When we finally got to go to the house, Taylor was so focused on getting inside that she didn't realize Spenser was right behind her on one knee waiting for her to turn around and see what was waiting. It was already an emotional day, but popping the question added a whole new level of emotion that Taylor was not expecting at all, meanwhile, Spenser's heart was beating a mile a minute.
