First there was Spencer, an aspiring PGA Professional and graduate of James Madison University, who had moved from Virginia to work for the Jekyll Island Golf Club where he had previously interned. Then came Theresa, an aspiring professional photographer and graduate of Drexel University, continuing a life search that literally went around the globe. In between were Theresa’s Dad and stepmom, Joe and Nancy, who had encouraged Theresa to come to Jekyll as a logical way point on her journey and see what life here had to offer. They also knew Spencer; Nancy through work at Jekyll Island Authority and Joe through golfing and taking lessons at the Golf Club. Once Theresa, who always dreamed of living by the ocean in a warm climate, made her plan to travel to Jekyll for an indefinite period with family, the stars began to align. Joe and Nancy were excited with anticipation and shared this (as well as some pictures) with Spencer, who, with his characteristic good humor, jokingly called Joe “Dad.” (Careful what you wish for, eh?) Finally, on a hot September Friday afternoon in 2013, Theresa arrived on Jekyll after a 10 hour, windows open, hair blown drive down I-95. Joe and Nancy asked her to join them and quite a few friends enjoying their regular Happy Hour at Fin’s Restaurant, a favorite watering hole at the time. Not long after Theresa arrived, Spencer joined the group of friends and some flirtatious banter was exchanged over drinks. Afterward, the two agreed to spend some time on the island together so Spencer could show the “younger side” of Jekyll to Theresa. On their first date, Spencer shared his favorite song with her in the car, “How Can We Be Lovers If We Can’t Be Friends?” …and the rest is history! Who would have thought all it takes is Michael Bolton to fall in love?!

With nearly five years of wonderful moments and beautiful memories, and, having lived up to his “old soul” character by seeking Joe’s permission for his daughter’s hand, Spencer popped the question. It was around midnight of a beautiful Jekyll evening on the beach in July with the moon, waves, and their wonderful dog Maddy’s happy tail waving as a backdrop. This was followed not too long after by the purchase of their first home and beginning the next chapter of their eternal life book of moments and memories.
