Spencer and Thalia grew up in North Haven, where they attended middle school and high school together. The two shared mutual friends, and really got to know each other when they had art class together in 8th grade. They began a relationship when Spencer asked Thalia to be his girlfriend on February 29th, the Leap Year Day (something the couple still laughs about to this day). They had a very typical middle school relationship; nervously saying hello in the hallways and talking on AOL Instant Messenger after school. The two shared their first kiss together in 2008, while waiting for the bus to go home. As with most middle school relationships, Spencer and Thalia went their separate ways. The two remained close friends, and developed stronger feelings for each other. On April 10, 2009, Spencer asked Thalia to be his girlfriend, but this time around it was much more serious, as Spencer and Thalia began to fall in love with one another. They would spend the next 3.5 years of high school together, sharing many milestones and memories along the way, such as getting their licenses, applying to college, and going to Prom together. Thalia was Spencer’s biggest fan, very rarely missing any of his games, something they both cherish to this day. They served as the Treasurer and Secretary of the class of 2012, which allowed them to graduate high school next to one another. After high school, they began a “long distance” relationship, as Spencer went to the University of Connecticut to major in accounting, while Thalia went to the University of Saint Joseph’s to major in nursing. The two made every effort to see each other on a weekly basis, as the schools were only 40 minutes away from one another. During their senior year, Spencer and Thalia spent a short time apart, something that they believe only made their relationship and love for one another stronger. The two were together for their last semester of college, even graduating on the same day in May of 2016.

After graduation, Thalia and Spencer moved back home to their parent's houses in North Haven. Now that they were back to living two minutes away from one another, they rarely went a day without seeing each other. The two began their careers, Spencer working as an auditor and Thalia working as a nurse. Spencer decided that he wanted to transfer to his firm's Stamford office, and Thalia agreed to move with him. In May of 2018, the couple moved into their first apartment together, where they still reside to this day. Shortly after, they got their puppy, Cora, together. In March of 2019, Spencer told Thalia that his boss invited them out to dinner at Maiella in Long Island City, NY. Being that Spencer was in the middle of his busy season, Thalia didn't think anything of it, and agreed to go even though she had worked the night before and was only on 4 hours of sleep. Spencer nervously drove Thalia to Maiella, which is located next to Gantry State Park, on the Hudson River. Spencer told Thalia that his boss was waiting for them by the river and that they should go down and check out the Manhattan skyline. As they walked down towards the river, Thalia was amazed by the views of New York City. When they got to the boardwalk, Spencer told Thalia that they were not there to have dinner with his boss, but that they were there because he wanted to spend the rest of his life with her. Spencer got down on one knee and asked Thalia to marry him. After a slight pause to process what just happened, Thalia ecstatically said yes and the high school sweethearts were officially engaged to be married!
