After Spencer watched Nancy play in a soccer game at his high school, he knew he had to meet her. Thanks to some help from mutual friends, they had their first date one year later at the Forest Park Senior High School Prom on May 8, 2010. With plans to attend different universities, they decided to stay friends going into college. A few weeks into their Freshman year of college, Nancy visited Spencer at Virginia Tech for the JMU football game and officially started dating that night, September 11, 2010. They will become Mr and Mrs on their 10 year anniversary, September 11, 2020.

8 years after our first date, we took a trip to Banff National Park in Alberta, Canada. Banff was at the top of both of our bucket lists and we couldn't wait to get there. On the first day there, we hiked Johnston Canyon in the morning and explored downtown in the afternoon. I really wanted to go see the famous Fairmont Banff Springs hotel so we decided to stop there on our way to dinner. Spencers "friend" recommended going to Surprise Corner to get the best view of the castle. Once we got up there and took a path away from the tourists, I started taking pictures of the beautiful hotel and when I turned around, Spencer was on one knee. Spencers friend ended up being a lovely photographer who was pretending to be a tourist and captured it all!
