My second year of studying Statistics at BYU, I was sitting in a new class and looking around to see who I knew. I saw a boy and thought, "Oh he's really cute, I would go on a date with him." Which I don't usually think about anybody ever. I forgot about it pretty quickly because it was one of those things I just assumed would never happen. Later that week I had a meeting with a professor that I would be starting research with, so he could introduce the project and my new research partner. I got to the office first and a few minutes later another student walked in. I decided that I should probably go back to the classroom and check for hidden cameras, because somehow my research partner ended up being the same guy I noticed from class. We worked together on our project for a few months. We would talk about class, complain about the company we were working for, and send each other ideas that we would come up with for analyzing the data. And we became good friends. I learned that he'd been Beaujou's pizza, which, as any self-respecting Coloradan would know, is a big deal. And that he loved the Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron soundtrack, which is one of my most favorite childhood movies. He is bright and driven and loves to have fun, and we worked very well together. So now we are getting married :) - Isabelle
In December, the week of finals, I finally got her to do something that wasn't work-related with me (after lots of trying with no success). Since it was finals, Isabelle naturally had no food in her apartment. Lucky for me, my roommate had just given me like three coupons to get a free meal at El Pollo Loco. On December 18th, 2019 I asked her if she wanted to go get some free food and she said of course. So we did. But to be clear, that doesn't count as a first date. Once we were both back in Provo after Christmas break, we started doing stuff together more regularly. Every Monday, Isabelle had a tradition of going to a Thai food restaurant that was across the street from her house. One Monday she invited me to come along with her and I (of course) went. After the meal we walked back to my apartment to watch a football game. On the way, I got a call from my sister Paige who was also at BYU asking me to go on a weekend trip with her and her roommate the next weekend as "parental supervision". Since Isabelle was right there, I asked if she wanted to come. It should be noted that at this point I was already planning on asking her out and had talked to our professor to make sure it was ok that I asked her out. The trip was very fun, and I pulled some good moves, like scratching her back for two hours in the car. Later she told me that that was how she knew I was the one. Not really, but she loves back scratches. The week after the trip, we went on our first official date, and from there the rest is history. -Spencer
