We first met during our sophomore year of high school while attempting to sneak off campus for Dairy Queen. Nothing really came from that moment—just learning each other’s names and sharing a quick laugh when Denise asked Spencer how he liked his “freshman year,” only for him to remind her we were in the same class. It wasn’t until the following year, at homecoming in October 2017, that everything changed. We almost didn’t end up there that night, but a last-minute decision brought us together. What started as a simple photo turned into us spending the entire night side by side, and from that moment on, something just clicked. At only 16, we became inseparable. Growing from high school sweethearts into best friends and each other’s constant. We went on to attend the same university, continuing to grow up together through all of life’s changes. Eventually, life pulled us in different directions, and we made the difficult decision to take a break. For a year, we continued to be pushed in different directions; but somehow, we found our way back to each other. After seeing Denise on TV at a Hurricanes game, Spencer reached out, and just like that, everything fell back into place as if no time had passed. Since then, we’ve built a life together filled with love, laughter, and our two dogs, Lucy and Toby. Less than a year after reconnecting, we took a trip to Sedona, Arizona (a place that will forever hold a special meaning in our hearts), where Spencer asked Denise to marry him. It was a moment we had been waiting for, and it couldn’t have been more perfect! Looking back, it’s funny to think we grew up in the same town, sharing so many of the same places and experiences, yet our story truly began when the timing was finally right. Through every stage of life, we’ve remained each other’s best friend, safe place, and biggest support. We feel incredibly grateful for the love we share and can’t wait to start this next chapter as husband and wife!
