We met on August 29, 2016 in line for food at a ward BBQ (thank you Jenn Bodine for keeping a detailed journal) After that initial meeting, all of our roommates became fast friends and we hung out as wardies all the time; never missing a hot tub Wednesday. We always had so much fun and laughed a lot when we were together, and we established a trusting friendship for over a year. Luckily, we both needed to take calculus in fall 2017. We signed up for the same section so we could study together. After getting our class worked out, Abby left Spencer's apartment to go home and Spencer's roommate (and best man) Austin said, "you guys are totally going to kiss." haha. Turns out calc takes a lot of time. However, come end of September, we both realized we were spending more time together than just in the math lab. We went on a date in October and it was the best ever! We quickly knew that we had found something special in each other. We are so excited to begin our future together and can't wait to celebrate with all our favorite people on April 17!
We got engaged in Lake Tahoe on the dock near where Abby's family goes for Fourth of July each year! It was awesome! Dreams come true!
As the pandemic became an international emergency, we were in the thick of wedding planning. It became clear that we wouldn’t be able to be sealed on our original wedding date very quickly. A few days later, we realized we might not be able to get a marriage license as more things closed. We secured the last marriage license given out in Wasatch County before the shutdown by slipping our IDs under the door! We decided to move up our wedding and have it on the balcony at Abby’s parents house in Heber, UT. Since the deck wasn’t finished, we laid out the tile ourselves and used chairs from the kitchen table. We zoomed with family for showers and “bachelor(ette) parties.” The day was simple and fun. One of our favorite moments was right before the ceremony, I (Abby) was waiting to walk out to the balcony and had a brief moment where I saw Spencer waiting with my dad as I looked through the window. It was so tender! We are so excited to be able to celebrate with everyone we love now and have the dance party of the century!
