Doesn't everyone want to meet their significant other through mutual friends? We met through our mutual friends, Joe and Meghan. Joe was Mike's college roommate and Meghan, Joe's current wife, is Lauren's childhood best friend. Lauren had plans to go to the The Preakness with Meg and Joe in 2016 and enjoyed messing with Joe and asking which friends of his she could hang out with. Normally, this would upset Joe, and he would forbid Lauren from speaking to anyone. Obviously, Mike caught her eye but, when Lauren mentioned it, instead of making Joe uncomfortable, it thrilled him, and he started laying the ground work for us to meet. We officially met in Baltimore and spent the whole weekend together, as if we had been friends forever. We went on our first official date in NYC shortly after getting home from our trip and have been inseparable ever since.
Not thinking anything of a normal Friday night dinner at a nearby restaurant, Mike insisted on taking the "long way" through the park. Unfortunately, Lauren was extremely hungry and was not interested in the scenic route . She even went as far as to Google Maps the restaurant to prove that Mike wanted to walk in the opposite direction of where they needed to go. However, after some pleading, Lauren finally agreed to take Mike's route. While walking through Christopher Columbus Park, Mike got down on one knee and proposed. Lauren, being in complete shock, asked if he was joking and laughed in his face. Friends who knew the engagement was happening booked a photographer to capture all of these wonderful moments. The photographer pointed out that in all of the excitement, Lauren managed to forget to say yes! It truly was a day to remember!
