Angie and Sowmya met in high school, and have basically been inseparable since. She is Sowmya's Type B bestie, and reminds her that not everything is life and death. Angie has seen Sowmya thru Medical school, when she threatened to quit and join the circus; residency, where Sowmya regularly came to her house and fell asleep on her couch until Angie woke her up for dinner and fellowship where Angie drove 13 hours from KC to Houston to help maintain Sowmya's sanity. Since Abhishek came into the picture the both of them enjoy ganging up on Sowmya, because according to Angie Sowmya did it for so long before Abhishek came along, she has to make up for lost time.

Sujana has had the pleasure of knowing Sowmya her whole life, as she's her youngest cousin, and more like a sister. Sujana is currently in medical school, and has called Sowmya many a time for advice as well as comiseration and encouragement. Like a good sister should Sowmya has always given her a mix of the hard truth, gentle hope and a little sarcasm to boot. Sujana tries to give back the sarcasm, but honestly when you meet her you will understand, she's just too sweet.

Red as Becky is affectionately known to Sowmya has been one of Sowmya's best friends since high school. Becky has the talent of remembering nearly everything about their friendship, except how they met, but they did meet in high school, and their connection has been strong ever since. During residency they lived a few blocks apart, girls nights and movie nights were a must. Since Sowmya moved to Texas Becky has supported her from afar, always checking in and sending treats. Becky met Abhishek and immediately said we are keeping this one, so in the end Sowmya didn't really have a choice, but to keep him.

Shivani and Sowmya have been nearly inseperable since medical school. They survived the war of medical school, and some how ended up in the same town in Texas once Sowmya finished fellowship. Their friendship keeps them both sane, as girls trips and girls nights are a common occurrence. Shivani's husband and Abhishek have found lots of things in common, especially being married to Type-A women who love Backstreet Boys and romantic comedies. Their friendship has many inside jokes because they survived medical school and life after.

Nidhi is Sowmya's niece, and already accomplished at a young age. She is finishing college on the east coast, but graduate school on the horizon. She and Sowmya enjoy walking together and exchanging book recommendations. Sowmya has watched Nidhi grow up, and can't believe she's old enough to be a bridesmaid!
