Sarah and Ryan met through a small group that Sarah was hosting at their church. Ryan had recently moved to the Phoenix area to pursue his Doctorate in Physical Therapy. The two remained casual friends for a while and it wasn't until Ryan messaged Sarah on Facebook (yes, he slid into her DMs) 5 months later that they really hit it off.
Ryan had been hinting at wanting to spend time with Sarah outside of church. Through their Facebook conversations they found that they both liked hiking. Sarah was actually in the process of training to hike across the Grand Canyon and so the two decided to go on a hike together. So who asked out who? We don't know! Ryan and Sarah chose to hike at Skyline Regional Park on an early Friday morning. They ended up hiking 10 miles without even realizing it because they were talking so much! The morning ended with breakfast at Waffle House. A perfect day. 10 days later Ryan and Sarah made their relationship official at the Starbucks in Verrado.
Ryan was on spring break the 3rd week in March and Sarah decided to take that week off of work so that they could spend time together. They planned to visit Ryan's family in Show Low for part of the week and then end the week with a trip to Joshua Tree National Park. Sarah didn't know but Ryan was using these plans to start planning his proposal. Once again on an early Friday morning, Ryan and Sarah set out to hike. The 3 hour drive was worth it and they spent the whole day hiking and enjoying the beautiful scenery. At their last stop in the park, Ryan got down on one knee and asked Sarah to marry him.
