How we met

01.11.2017

Grant and Sophie first met on Bumble back in October 2016. Grant was Sophie's first-ever Bumble match and they talked on and off for a few months online before Sophie finally decided "enough with this small talk G, here's my number, take me on a date." They finally went on their first date in January 2017 to a cute bar in Walnut Creek called Sunol Ridge (now closed, RIP). After dating only a month, Sophie moved to New York City. Grant wasn't so sure of long distance, but Sophie was persistent, and the rest is history :)

The Proposal

03.27.2021

The night before the proposal: Sophie: “So when are we getting engaged?” Grant: “Eh I dunno, I think in a couple months sounds good.” Sophie: “Ok, well I just want to be surprised and I want my family to be there.” Grant, behind a smirk: “Cool, well the proposal’s kinda “my thing” but I’ll take all that into consideration.” The stage was set for the perfect surprise. Sophie’s Grandma Bebe left her Tahoe cabin open for Grant, Sophie, Mom Yevett, Dad Dave, and brother Dane for the weekend. But Grant had secretly booked a nearby Airbnb for the rest of their families to come up for the big day. Everything went according to plan. The crew went for a hike, played disc golf, and lounged at the cabin before Sophie got ready for a happy hour with coworkers nearby. Before she left, Grant requested that Sophie come back home for the sunset. This wasn’t an odd request, the two always watched the sunset on the same beach every time they were in town, so Sophie agreed and went on her way. Sophie returned from happy hour 10 minutes before the sunset, and she and Grant quickly headed out. The two were able to find an empty spot on the beach to share a beer and watch the sunset. When the time felt right, Grant got on a knee and popped the question. She said yes! A group of beach-goers clapped and cheered. Grant and Sophie were all smiles but unsure of what to do next, so they headed back to the car. Halfway there, a stranger runs up, says she saw the whole thing go down and felt compelled to take pictures of the moment. As Sophie looks over the photos, she looks down at her hand. On her ring finger is her new diamond ring, and on her pointer finger is her late Grandma Cherie’s ring, whom Sophie was incredibly close to.. and hadn’t worn in over a year. Queue the tears. The whole family was with us! It was such a special moment for them both. The two lovebirds drove back to the Airbnb where both families were waiting with dinner, drinks, and games all night long.
