We met online during Covid-19, which had disrupted our travel plans which would have otherwise caused us to be overseas. Sophie had just finished medical school and spent a bit of time traveling New Zealand while Yibo just got back from his OE.

We had arranged for a first date at an Italian restaurant (Gina's if you must) on a Monday evening. Sophie was presenting and wrapping up some academic work while Yibo had just finished a boxing workout. Yibo thought that this girl was cute and cheerful while Sophie was wondering why this guy looked so tired. The conversation went smoothly, both of us enjoying similiar TV shows and possessing a love for adventure. We also ordered too much food.

If there was any doubt that we were made for each other after the first date, the followup encounter put that to bed. It started with brunch, followed by a trip to the mall, ice cream at the beach, shopping on high street, drinks at a bar, dinner and finally a trip to the supermarket where Sophie bought two tubs of yoghurt and gifted one to Yibo (of which Yibo ate and Sophie did not).

We had always talked about living overseas and the chance presented itself when Sophie was offered a job in Melbourne in 2023. We then came to scout the city and consequently shuttle all our possessions over. Since arriving, we have managed to travel a little, settle into a new place and even got Lemon (our dog) who has made us feel like a real Melbournian!
