In March 2021, On the night of Tyler's -- one of Sophie's best friends from college -- 21st birthday party, Nathan and Sophie's mutual friends Day and Ryan had invited Nathan to come with them to the birthday party. When Nathan first walked into the party, Sophie thought he was the cutest boy she had ever seen. Not knowing how to introduce herself, she grabbed a champagne flute, hurried over to him, and handed him the drink, earning herself a permanent spot in his life. A few weeks later, Nathan earned an invite to another one of Sophie's college friends -- Liesl's -- Halloween-themed birthday party, where he would show up and be the only attendee not in a costume. That night, Sophie knew that she had stolen Nathan's heart when he invited her to JBU kickback the following night. Up until May 2021, the two would go on several dates until Sophie moved back home to Kansas City for the summer. When school started back up, the two decided just to stay friends but continued to run into each other every weekend in Fayetteville - oftentimes at their favorite spots while they were out and about with their friends or at the Yancey's hot dog stand. On August 19, 2022, Nathan asked Sophie to be his girlfriend and then immediately after threw her a belated surprise birthday party. After graduating from college, they then moved to Nashville in August 2023 for their jobs, and on March 28, 2025, Nathan proposed to Sophie in Percy Warner Park and was followed immediately with a surprise engagement party with some of their loved ones.
