Maid of Honor
Sophie describes Dilara as "the best part of her PhD". Dilara was the first person Sophie met at Duke. Dilara immediately adopted Sophie as family, and they have been partners in crime ever since, participating in countless activities (ABBA Disco Nights, pumpkin patches, state fairs, backpacking trips, paddle boarding adventures, New Years Science Galas, etc). Sophie has never met a more aggressively loyal, hilariously chaotic, and wonderfully enthusiastic person.
Best Man
Kevin and McLane became friends in elementary school and have remained close ever since. Growing up, they spent spent countless hours crafting Lego, completing puzzles, and consuming tacos at a few of their favorite spots around Manhattan Beach. They've also shared many adventures throughout the years pursuing outdoor activities such as canoeing down the Colorado River, surviving a night "lost" in the woods for a wilderness survival merit badge, and manning the sails of a tall ship around the Channel Islands.
Matron of Honor
Sophie met Kira in preschool when they were both only 2 years old! They have been friends for 27 years, staying best friends through high school and college and even becoming roommates for their Senior year of college. They have done many a hobby together, including pottery, martial arts, and aerial silks! After graduation, they maintained a close cross-coastal friendship through lengthy video calls discussing 50 books a year (along with Chase Bishman) in a phenomenon lovingly dubbed "Book Cult".
Groomsman
A lot can be said of the connection brothers develop having grown up together, but a lot more can probably be said about how they build on that later. Cam and McLane have been living on opposite coasts for many years now but have made a point to stay a part of each other's lives. Both are very excited to be living in the same city again after well over a decade apart and look forward to many rounds of disc golf, lots of time spent on the beach playing volleyball (hopefully not losing Sophie again), and probably some shenanigans playing board games.
Bridesmaid
Sophie met Kristi through Dilara and immediately loved her sense of humor and large accumulation of pets (2 dogs, 2 cats, 2 bunnies, and 2 goats). She supported Sophie through multiple slightly traumatic experiences, including the final months of thesis writing and a mildly botched wisdom tooth extraction.
Groomsman
Bryan and McLane met at a graduate student event... at a school neither attended. Their enthusiasm for throwing a frisbee around led to to develop a friendship and expanded into paddling on lakes, backpacking the tallest peak on the east coast, and cooking many a Smoreo around campfires.
Bridesman
A founding member of the "Book Cult", Chase met Sophie their first year at UCSB. They bonded over an hour long discussion on the anatomy of dragon wings at a college party. They continue to discuss dragon wings frequently.
Groomsman
While coworkers don't often graduate to genuine friends let alone close ones, Nick and McLane are some of the exceptions having met working at the same clean energy company. They connected over their interest in sustainability as well as many nights spent playing board games, watching movies, and brainstorming creative startups.
Bridesman
Sophie and Peter met freshman year of high school in P.E and were close friends all throughout high school. She would regularly eat all of the panini in their house (thanks Cindy!). She is thrilled that he decided to marry one of her best friends (Kira) and takes a lot of credit for this fact.
Flower Girls in our Hearts
Athena and Artemis are Sophie and McLane's two very shy kitties that adopted in 2018. They would HATE participating in this wedding, but in our hearts they are the flower girls.
