Question

Do we need a visa to enter Portugal?

Answer

No! In 2024, U.S. citizens with a valid U.S. passport can enter into Europe’s Schengen area for up to three months without a visa. For more information, please visit the U.S. Department of State Travel Page at the following link: https://travel.state.gov/content/travel/en/international-travel/before-you-go/travelers-with-special-considerations/schengen.html

Question

What are the travel documents required to travel to Portugal?

Answer

You will need a valid passport to travel to Portugal and other European countries! Please see the details below for more information or visit the U.S. Department of State Travel information page. Here are some reminders when checking your passport’s validity: 1. Your passport must have at least six-month’s validity remaining on your passport whenever you travel abroad. 2. Check the expiration date on your passport carefully before traveling to Europe – especially children’s passports, which are valid five years, not 10 years like those issued to U.S. citizens aged 16 and older. 3. Carry your passport when traveling to another country in the Schengen area. Even if there is no border check at that time, officials may reinstate border controls without notice.
