We met through a mutual friend one month before graduating high school, May 10 of 2019 on Grandma Amy's birthday. She had passed away exactly two weeks prior and I was hanging out with some old friends in hopes of getting my mind off of my grief. On this day, I was with one of my good friends, JD, when he sporadically suggests to invite his "buddy" to tag along with us because "He doesn't live far!". "Mmm, I don't know. I thought it was just going to be us." But because I didn't want to be rude, I said "okay." We drive to his house and David Jones comes walking down the driveway. I knew this kid. We came from the same pool of El Camino High School students and had mutual classes and clubs we would attend throughout the years. The evening following was interesting to say the least. I felt like I was third-wheeling the entire time because these two "buddies" were catching up, having some good laughs while leaving me in the dust. Then suddenly, David and I were able to exchange a few words and actually had a really nice conversation. It didn't take long to discover David had an unconventional approach to life, that was similar to my own. There was this undeniable pursuit of Christ in his eyes, in his words, in his heart, and in his life. This is when I thought, "Yeah, I could get used to this."
