Akash and Sophie both went to UC Davis, but their love story definitely did not start there... In fact, they weren’t exactly each other’s biggest fans. Sophie thought Akash was annoying, and Akash thought Sophie was unfriendly, and although they ran in similar social circles, they wouldn't have considered themselves friends. Physically attractive, yes, but friends, no. Shortly after Akash graduated in 2017, they both attended a holiday party (shoutout Amanda), and things felt different this time around. They developed a banter with each other, Akash asked her to ride in his sister’s car and they talked for an hour. Soon after they began texting every day, falling asleep on the phone, and Akash pursued Sophie unwaveringly until she finally said yes to being his girlfriend. Since then, they have been through a lot together: surviving 2.5 years of long distance when Sophie moved to San Diego for nursing school, navigating a global pandemic, and moving in together, which was quite the challenge at first. (Sophie had to get used to Akash taking 2-3 weeks to unpack his bags after trips, and Akash had to get used to someone barging into his office to tell him a story in the middle of a work day). They have built a life filled with date nights, travel (8 countries and counting), music, hiking, intense board game nights, binging Survivor, showing each other emotional videos, scaring each other, making up songs about each other’s quirks, uncontrollable laughter, spontaneous competition, and spending time with friends and family. After 6 years of dating, Sophie started to wonder when Akash would pop the question. She started getting impatient, especially when Akash would say things like, “I want us to both be 29 when it happens”. Secretly he had it all figured out and finally proposed in the Grand Tetons during one of their annual national park trips. After first responding with “What are you doing?!” Sophie of course said yes. They are so excited to celebrate their marriage with their close friends and family. Can’t wait to see you all in September!!
