Traditional Latin Nuptial Mass

Latin Mass weddings are rich in tradition and deep in beauty! While the sacrament they celebrate is the same, there are a few key differences between Ordinary Form and Latin Mass weddings. Here is everything you need to know about Traditional Latin Mass weddings, and the differences between a Traditional Latin and Ordinary Form wedding. The Vows take place at the beginning of The Mass: In an Ordinary Form Mass, the vows and exchange of rings are done in the middle of Mass, shortly after the conclusion of the priest’s homily. However, at a Traditional Latin wedding, the vows are exchanged at the beginning of the Mass, right after the bride (or couple) processes into the church. When the vows are complete, Mass continues on as a regular Latin Mass would. It’s so beautiful that the first act they do as a married couple is attend Mass together! The Words of Consent During The Vows Differ from The Ordinary Rite. Readings for A Traditional Latin Wedding Mass are Already Selected: In a Traditional Latin Mass wedding, the readings are pre-set. Unlike the Ordinary Form weddings where you often get to pick from a selection provided by the church, couples getting married in a Traditional Latin Wedding Mass must use the readings prescribed by the liturgy.

Our Story

We met at Colonel Awakening 53, a Catholic Retreat for college students, at Nicholls! Gavin's friend invited him to work it and I decided to work it as well. We got to talking over breakfast and immediately hit it off! After a 7 hour "study" session at PJs (where we talked about everything except for Nursing and Geology), we knew we got along super well. Soon, we began hanging out more often and started dating a couple months later, one week before Gavin left for Field Camp. The next 6 weeks consisted of many evening phone calls, texts, and Facetimes to share our lives with each other. Although it was hard, it helped our communication skills tremendously. While at University we were 1 hour 15 minutes away in Baton Rouge and Thibodaux, and now things have changed a lot for the both of us. Gavin moved back home to Raceland with his parents for a while to work with his Dad, and I moved up to Covington for my first nursing job as a pediatric nurse at St. Tammany Parish Hospital! So while many things are different now that we're not in school, the drive has not gotten any better at 1 hour 30 minutes now. We see each other once or maybe twice a week and try our best to meet at my parents' house in Gretna on the weekends so we can go to the Latin Mass at St. Patrick's! We have never let the distance get to us and always try to do fun things together when we can! Some of our favorites are a nice movie night, going to eat at our favorite restaurant (Song Phi Nong, best fried rice ever), traveling to Texas and Florida, bike riding, cooking, and going to little events around New Orleans, Covington, and Thibodaux.
