Town Lake has a great trail for biking, walking, or running. You can also rent a paddle board, kayak, or a canoe if you want to get out on the water. We have linked a website for watercraft rentals on Town Lake here, but there are several other places as well.
South of Town Lake with a great view of the Capitol building, South Congress has many coffee shops, restaurants, boutiques, and hotels.
In the corner of Downtown Austin, Rainey Street has residential homes that have been turned into bars. Because many of the bars have great patios, live music, and food truck options, Rainey Street is popular both during the day and at night.
Barton Springs Pool is a public swimming pool fed by underground springs, and it stays 68-70 degrees all year long.
Sixth Street has many bars and restaurants, but we like Rustic Tap on West Sixth Street, and Whisler’s on East Sixth Street.
The Congress Avenue Bridge is home to the largest bat colony in Texas. The bats depart from the bridge each night approximately 30-60 minutes before sunset. You can view the bats for free by standing on the bridge, or in a bat viewing area located on the southeast corner of Congress Bridge and Town Lake.
About 35 minutes south of Austin, you can rent a tube and float the San Marcos River. It will be busy Memorial Day Weekend, which would be fun! You most likely would need to book your tube reservation in advance. The website link and address listed is for a popular tube rental company at the San Marcos River. The Guadalupe River is another popular option for floating.
