It was May 2012 at the CCCAA Track & Field State Championships when I first laid eyes on the woman that would eventually become my wife. We officially met at the “After State” party that was held somewhere in Fullerton, California. It was a great night. We were having what seemed to be the makings of a great relationship (at least in my eyes) when, out of nowhere, she hit me with the infamous “swerve” and sent me packing. First of all, I didn’t send you packing, I just… dismissed you, temporarily? He was definitely feelin’ me more than I was feelin’ him (some of ya’ll know how that is). Fast forward to November 2013, and I don’t remember what triggered this, but I reached out. I knew how great of a guy he was and thought I’d just check in and say “hi.” A month later, I ended up asking him out… She asked me and I obliged and we were set to go to the movies. We were supposed to see “Anchorman 2” or something like that but ended up seeing “Frozen”. The weeks to follow she was all on me and I was behind the wall she made me build when she swerved me. Before I even acknowledge the last part, remember how fed up we were with all the songs in that movie? But anyway, yes, he accepted my invitation, despite the imaginary walls he had up, which turned out to be the best choice for the both of us. Four years, three states, several petty arguments over what to eat, and hundreds more to go, here we are – months away from jumping the broom!
