How We Met

The Best Adventure of my Life

Anna: "In high school, I was often known as one of the students who would try to mix up groups that were entirely separated between girls and guys. So, when I (accidentally) arrived fashionably late to a move-in day pizza party, I immediately noticed there was a clear "guys table" and "girls table". I looked to the girl behind me in line and said, "I'm going to invade the guys table." Little did I know, my future husband would be sitting at that table of guys." Colin: "After she invaded the guys table in our first orientation meeting, I knew that Anna was someone that I could feel comfortable talking to, despite my shy and introverted personality in freshman year. In the months after that encounter, we became close friends and spent most of our time together, including late-night trips to WAWA, countless hours playing cards, and working on papers together. I soon started to fall for her smile, sense of humor, and deep love of God and others. I was determined to ask her out before winter break, even though she swore she would "never date in freshman year". After many nights of failing to ask her, I finally worked up the courage and the rest has been the best adventure of my life.

How He Asked

Way to Kick Him While He's Down

Colin: "I had a plan in place to take Anna to a local garden, where Ben and Emily would meet us and take pictures of our big moment. But the night before I planned to ask, Anna had a change of plans and the garden would close before she was free. In a panic, I googled "apple orchards near me". I found the perfect spot, and it was the perfect evening. Ben and Emily met us at the orchard, and I had the ring box tucked in my sock (an ingenious plan really). Right as the sun began to set, I asked the woman of my dreams to spend the rest of her life with me..." Anna: "Ben said, "Any other poses?" and out of the corner of my eye, I saw Colin get down on one knee. I immediately thought he was stopping to tie his shoe. In the golden hour of the apple orchard, I thought it was NOT the time to tie your shoe, Colin! So I kicked him.... you know, just to let him know his "joke" wasn't funny. Until I realized he was actually pulling a ring box out of his sock, opening it, and asking me to marry him!"
