How we met

September 27, 2013

Carlene meeting Ben: The first memory I have of Ben was him randomly coming up to me and a friend at my locker and him hugging my friend and booping my nose. After that, possibly a few days later, I remember him being in the commons at school and asking his cousin his real name because he was so cool at the time he went by "Private". I'm not sure on the exact day these events were, I just have a guess in a planner I kept. Obviously back in high school, I didn't think a boy randomly booping me would become my husband. Ben meeting Carlene: Hi my name is Ben. And this is the story of the rest of my life. scene Holmen High School, 2013. I transferred schools for one reason, to graduate high school and get on with the rest of my life. I never really had friends, and hadn't planned on making any. So, imagine my surprise when I suddenly become friends with an entire group of people. I didn't know Carlene as anybody but just another member of this group of friends. But the first thing that really made her stand out was this damn cowboy hat, that she wore to my birthday. I remember thinking how goofy it was for a Wisconsinite to where a cowboy hat. So I looked at her and I payed attention to her. I noticed how loud and boisterous she was, and before I realized it I was spending more and more time around her. I would find excuses to talk to her, and reasons to see her because I still had yet to tell her that her damn hat was goofy, but as time went on I kept getting caught up in how amazing she was; from the way she'd laugh, to the gleam in her i's when she'd smile. I also noticed how she would go out of her way to help anyone. I fell in love with Carlene Marie Knelson without even knowing it, and when the time came for me to "get on with my life" I found out that I couldn't do it without her, and because I still haven't told her that the hat is goofy. Maybe soon I'll work up the courage to tell her. but hey, I still have the rest of my life.
