This is very close to cabins and is an amazing hike into the canyon, 2 miles round trip, in and out. Navigate to Smith Rock RESORT (not the state park) and drive to the dead end, park, and follow trail through gate. Spectacular. This view is the whole reason we are here!

South of Bend. Do the obsidian flow hike if it's open!
North of Cabins. Semi-rustic hot springs resort on way to Portland.
Brewery with a view in Hood River. Central spot to walk around town from. VCB has been working on a project for the Hood River Bridge Replacement.
Hike in Columbia River Gorge
On Washington side of Columbia River Gorge. Neat hike with great views of the gorge.
Historic lodge on Mount Hood, highest point you can access with car, hikes from the parking lot. Might still be pretty cold up here in May.
Hike with some of the best views of Mount Hood. Do McNeil Point if you're strong and brave (same trailhead). Might still be snow on the ground.

Our favorite hike is Crescent Beach Trail
About 2.5 hour drive from cabins. Check road closures ahead of time.
