Do I need a passport to travel to Puerto Rico?

Answer

If you're a U.S. citizen, Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, so you don't need a passport—just a valid government-issued REAL ID. However, as of May 7, 2025, U.S. travelers must be REAL ID compliant to board domestic flights and access certain federal facilities. If you do not have one, YOU WILL NEED YOUR PASSPORT.

Yes, Puerto Rico accepts U.S. dollars (USD)—in fact, it's the official currency. Since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory, you won’t need to exchange money if you're coming from the United States. Credit cards are widely accepted, though it’s a good idea to carry a bit of cash for small vendors, local shops, or beach bars that may be cash-only.

While Rincón is walkable in parts, having a car makes it much easier to explore, go to the beach, and travel between the airport, venue, and your accommodations. Ubers and Lyfts are sparce on this side of the island.

Here’s a quick list: Lightweight clothing, swimsuits & flip flops, reef-safe sunscreen,bug spray (especially for evenings!), sunglasses, hats, beach towels, portable fan (for the sun-sensitive!), and of course dancing shoes for the wedding

It's okay we don't either. While Spanish is the primary language in Puerto Rico, most people in Rincón speak English, especially in hotels, restaurants, and tourist areas!

Major providers like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, and others offer service without roaming charges since Puerto Rico is a U.S. territory. TIP: Many locals and visitors use WhatsApp to communicate. it works great over Wi-Fi or cellular data and is handy for coordinating plans or calling taxis.
