We met in early 2020, right as the world was starting to shut down. What began as just getting to know each other quickly turned into spending a lot of time together… partly because of the circumstances, but mostly because we genuinely wanted to. Two months into our relationship, we took our first roadtrip to Fort Fisher Aquarium… remember this detail for later. Somewhere in all of that time together, it became pretty obvious that this was different. We couldn’t picture a future that didn’t include each other, and from then on, we’ve just kept choosing one another. Over the years, we’ve grown up a lot side by side. Wesley was there for Sonia through college and the start of her career. Sonia supported Wesley as he moved out on his own and got his career going. In 2022, we moved in together and officially started building a home and a life together. That home came with a little extra personality- Wesley’s dear (and slightly annoying) cat, Tom, and got even better when we adopted our dog, Ollie, in January 2023. Like any couple, there have been ups and downs, but through it all, we’ve always had each other’s backs. We knew we wanted to get married for a long time, but never felt rushed. When you know, you know! We wanted to wait until the timing felt right. On June 6, 2025, Wesley planned a proposal that we will never forget. At the Fort Fisher Aquarium, while we were in a private room overlooking the main tank, a scuba diver swam down holding a sign that read, “Sonia, will you marry me?” Sonia was completely surprised (and very excited about the diver) and, of course, said yes. We are so excited for what’s ahead and even more excited to celebrate with all of you.
