The exchange rate is ~17-18 pesos/US dollar. Think 100 pesos is about $5 USD, 200 pesos is about $10 USD
It's a good idea to have pesos on you at all times. It's best to exchange dollars at your departure airport or before you plan to travel (lines are long and the exchange rate is usually higher at the Cancun airport).
VISA and Mastercard are widely accepted at established restaurants, hotels and retail stores.
Bug spray - Tulum is basically a jungle on the beach so there are a ton of mosquitos. And apparently they are out for blood. Make sure to bring strong bug spray (with deet) or repellent bracelets. Sunscreen - Pack biodegradable sunscreen if you plan to swim in the cenotes!
