It was love at first fruit. By that, we mean their connection was made at the fruit aisle in Giant Eagle - Market District (Pittsburgh's premier version of its low-end grocery store). Song-My was touching every single fruit in her sight to test for ripeness while Alex was collecting ingredients for his clafoutis. They both grabbed the same bag of plump cherries. And the rest is history...
Online dating can get pretty repetitive and stale, but we kicked off our first conversation talking about eating snails - very on-brand of us. On our first date, we went to an 'adult bug exhibition', where we listened to musical instruments that imitated insect sounds and then became fireflies. On our third date, Song-My went on stage at an improv theater to participate in a game show and openly mocked Alex, who was sitting in the audience. The crowd then cheered for us throughout the night, and Song-My was known to Alex as "Cold Sore Girl" (Alex has questionable taste). We always managed to find a unique experience in our small city of Pittsburgh. We dressed up as Dora and Swiper to participate in a scavenger hunt, went to an erotica night where bananas were thrown at us, and attended an interactive theater performance, in which Afghan refugees prepared food for us as performers portrayed their life stories. Openness is what defines our relationship. It's the openness to share and appreciate new experiences together; Openness to understand and truly listen to each other; Openness to grow with each other. Although the future is unknown, I know for a fact that Alex and I will be making the most out of it, loving each other every single moment. Thank you for being part of our journey and we're excited to celebrate with you in a Song-My and Alex fashion!
