Question

What is the dress code?

Answer

For the 1st night, the dress code is cocktail attire. Dress festive and colorful! For the wedding day, the dress code is formal/black-tie optional. Finally, for either day you are more than welcome to wear traditional Indian attire, such as sarees, lehengas, sherwanis, or any other Indian cultural attire that you prefer! Alternatively, feel free to dress in non-Indian attire, such as dresses, suits, or any other formal attire you would wear to a special occasion. For folks who are interested in wearing Indian attire, please see the next section. And if you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to reach out.

Question

I'd love to wear Indian attire! What should I wear?

Answer

We absolutely welcome you to wear Indian outfits for either night! For both men and women’s outfits, you’ll see there is no universal or perfect ‘type’ of each option; each garment/outfit has gone through so many evolutions over time. Ultimately - what you wear is totally up to you and what you feel good in. Below are some familiar terms you’ll come across if you search for Indian wear, and note that these are not comprehensive! If you aren’t sure, don’t hesitate to reach out to us :) For women you have several options, here are some examples: ***saree: fabric draped from shoulders to ankles, and there are some that are pre-tied to avoid the elaborate self-draping typically required ***lehenga: two-piece ensemble with a skirt and blouse – the blouse is typically slightly cropped but you can find one that is more of a longer tunic - it’s up to your preference ***kurta: longer, tunic top paired with palazzo-style wide-leg pants ***salwar kameez: two-piece outfit with a long shirt and trousers Men, you also have tons of options to choose from and remember the below isn’t a comprehensive list but are common outfits you may see: ***kurti: a two-piece ensemble; long-sleeved tunic (typically reaches below the knees, but doesn’t have to) paired with pants ***sherwani: long-sleeved knee-length jacket, shirt underneath (if your sherwani isn’t too thick you could wear a kurta, but if it’s thick you may get too hot in it and may want to opt for a simple t-shirt, and pants ***bandhgala suit: similar to sherwani, but the jacket is shorter in length (closer in form to a suit or tuxedo jacket). Features buttons and an enclosed, collared high-neck Finally, you’ll also often see vests as a fun option too! Add flair to your kurta by pairing a vest (nehru jacket) over it.
