Question

What's a Sangeet... and what's a "Sangeet-style Reception"?

Answer

Sangeet is a Hindu wedding event where, traditionally, the bride’s family hosts their friends and family a few days before the wedding ceremony. “Sangeet” means music - and it was a time for guests to express their joy for the bride, and also to gently tease the couple through song and dance. Guests “jordo gaane”, or use a familiar tune, but write their own lyrics to tell the couples’ story for an evening of laughter and merriment. Today, we’re borrowing that tradition and adding a modern twist: we’re hosting a “Sangeet”-style reception, where we invite all our guests to perform: play, sing, dance after our reception dinner. We ask that you keep performances under 5 minutes, light and celebratory, and that you team up with fellow guests (family or friends) where possible. If your performance has A/V setup requirements, please let us know in your form submission. We can’t wait to see what you come up with!

Question

Should we bring our kids?

Answer

We're envisioning an adults-only party, but children over 12 years old are welcome. It's our hope that our guests can enjoy themselves and be fully present with us that day. Leave the kids at home and let loose!
